Qualities

In general we use Italian spinners because they have the tradition and knowledge to make yarn in top quality and always present new inspiring yarns and techniques.

Cashmere

Cashmere originates from the Cashmere goats. The Cashmere goat often lives at great altitude in varying temperatures so it develops a special two in one coat. Its outer coat is extremely coarse and wiry, and the inner or undercoat is much softer and silkier. We use the inner /undercoat fibres to make cashmere yarns extremely fine and soft, that guarantees an exceptional protection against the cold. It takes the average goat between 3 and 4 years to produce enough fibre to make a women's jumper, which is what makes cashmere so precious. Its value is further increased by the difficulties in gathering and checking the quality of the fibre.

At Månestråle we use Loro Piana cashmere. It is one of the best spinners of cashmere in the world. Here, the fibre is transformed into top quality cashmere yarn in beautiful colors. Then it is knitted by skilled crafts people and transformed into garments that look and feel good for years.

Knitwear made from this luxurious fibre requires careful care and attention. Therefore our entire cashmere garment comes with a cashmere care guide attached with the hang tag.

Cashmere-Silk-Wool

Cashmere mixed with silk and wool gives a stronger yarn but still with the softness that characterizes cashmere and the shine that characterizes silk. Silk is unraveled from a cocoon, the metamorphosis chamber of the silkworm. This yarn makes it possible to knit very light and soft garments. We use this excellent yarn for both summer and winter because it warms you at winter and chills you at summer

Merinos

The majority of the worlds merino originates from Australia and New Zealand. Merino comes in many variations depending on the sheep. We mainly uses Extra Fine Merinos which is the finest and softest (less than 19.5 µm/ micrometers). Extra fine merino gives a smooth and clear stitch definition and garments that last for years. We always use Extra Fine Merinos in our winter-collections for both classic and fashion pieces.

Lambs wool

Lambs wool is collected at lambs first shearing. It comes in many different qualities depending on where the lamb is form. Lambs wool is a long-lasting, but still soft fibre with a more “woolly” look. We use lambs wool for the heavier and outer garments in our winter-collections.

Cotton/ viscose

Cotton and viscose is both vegetable fibres. Cotton originates from the cotton plant and viscose is a regenerated vegetable fibre which mostly originates from wood. Cotton and viscose comes in many different variations: shinny/mat, thin/thick 100% or mixed with other fibres. We use varying cotton and viscose in our Spring/Summer collections for classic and fashion pieces.

Other fibres …

Silk, angora, mohair, … We strive to keep ourselves updated and use “fashion”-yarn which you may only find in the Månestråle collection once. We seek to present new qualities in every collection, but we will always choose yarn of high quality.
